The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Biotechnology

”It [Artificial intelligence] will either be the best thing that’s ever happened to us, or it will be the worst
thing.” – Stephen Hawking
Introduction
The twin revolution in artificial intelligence and biotechnology is perhaps the most impactful
advancement in technology since the mechanisation of processes in the industrial revolution[11]. Human wellbeing is flourishing under an ominous veil of dependency. Hawking’s
fear is resounded by many, with AI outcompeting humans cognitively and biotech changing
the genetic makeup up individuals. Similarly, his hope is not incongruous. The complementary intertwining of these scientific disciplines catalyses their improvement and their ability
to aid, not destroy, us.
